What is the best part of your job?
So many parts! I am honored to serve and reside in the Albemarle community. Giving back is extremely important to me and I get to enjoy it while doing so professionally and personally. Additionally, I get to work with people and with things! I have been given opportunities to collaborate with colleagues on projects and building systems. Using creative and critical thinking skills to enhance and improve products and processes and individual work performance has been great also.
The most difficult part?
Two things. First, we are a very progressive and technologically-advanced organization, and we are encouraged to think outside of the box. But sometimes everyone is not on the same page to think and do in advance ways and systems don’t always work when you want them to!
The second is being away from my family during traveling season. We are very close knit family. I appreciate being able to see my husband and two sons everyday.
How does your job most directly impact the average person?
I do a lot of motivating and coaching as I assist adults with their job search process and finding joy at work. For our younger citizens/public school students, the types of adults they are with everyday at school is crucial, so I am sure to recruit the most diverse qualified role models we can find for them.
What is the most interesting project or work experience that you’ve had while with the County?
Working with a very dedicated, employee-centered Human Resources Team! Project wise, serving as a project lead to create and implement our online employment application. Externally, serving as an Election Official, Program Chair for the African American Teaching Fellows Board and Treasurer of our state school human resources organization, VASPA.
What is a little-known fact about you?
How appreciative I am of what the County has given to me. I am excited about going to work and giving back. Personally, I am the third of nine children, seven of which are in education.
