They’re not making any more land. So goes the old country saying.
That fact is confronting Albemarle County afresh these days, along with other area entities.
Earlier this week, county staff let Albemarle’s Planning Commission know that more land needs to be set aside for business development. The discussion came in the context of the commission’s review of the Comprehensive Plan, which sets guidelines for future land use and must be periodically updated.
Albemarle has identified four core industries it wishes to nurture: biosciences and medical devices; business and financial services; information technology/defense and security; and agribusiness. In all these areas, the county already has made notable inroads.
