University of Virginia Rector Helen E. Dragas cleared another legislative obstacle Thursday, moving another step closer to keeping her job as a House of Delegates subcommittee voted in her favor.

For the first time, unhappy citizens spoke against her during a public comment period. Dragas also got some of the most glowing compliments she’s received from lawmakers to date during the proceeding. The appointments subcommittee of the House Privileges and Elections Committee voted 6-1 in her favor.
