What has been the most challenging aspect of becoming an administrator?
I made the transition into administration directly from the classroom. One of the biggest challenges is adjusting to the broaden scope of influence that comes with this position. When making decisions now, they often have an impact on a larger portion of the school community, not just my classroom.
In what new ways do you support student learning?
As an administrator, I support student learning by actively engaging with all students, providing support and resources for teachers to ensure high quality learning occurs for all students.
What are you doing to engage the community at your school?
We work together as a team: administration, teachers, and parents. The PTO is a very active organization that provides support for the teachers and gives parents the chance to contribute time and talents with the school community. There is the expectation that respect will be mutual, and that everyone has something valuable to contribute. It is important that we provide opportunities for faculty and staff to discuss and share their ideas.
How will you respect your school’s history and culture while making the decisions necessary to educate young people for their future?
I have enjoyed getting to know the rich history of this school. One key characteristic of our school history is having a strong partnership with the community. The community continues to embrace the school and we strive to stay connected with the community by building and fostering strong relationships. We work hard to ensure our students are prepared to contribute positively as citizens. This is done through working collaboratively with the community partners.
