Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 11:12 a.m.

This year’s UVa Vortex had students in the School of Architecture envision new ways to address congestion and improve the U.S. Route 29 corridor.  Of these three big ideas...

If you had to pick one, which of these three ideas would you most like to see in your lifetime?
You can also tell us WHY or suggest another option in your comments!

Create a multi-modal U.S. 29

Which allows for various modes of transportation - pedestrian, bikes, buses, trains, self-driving cars, gondolas.

Urbanize U.S. 29 with emphasis on space for residents to live and work

Greater housing density and mixed-use developments place people closer to where they work and shop.

Speed up U.S. 29 by building overpasses and tunnels

Which results in less traffic congestion and improved opportunities to cross U.S. 29 for cars, pedestrians and bicyclists.
