Without Charlottesville-Albemarle deal, sewer line work could shut down McIntire Road

The final phase in a $3.5-million overhaul of the sewer line that collects waste from The Corner and parts of the Downtown Mall has hit a stumbling block in the County Office Building’s backyard.

Officials say the 1950s-era pipe, which was too small when it was installed, needs to be replaced and rerouted from beneath McIntire Road to under the baseball field and park behind Albemarle’s administrative headquarters.
