Tell us about your volunteer activities.
I am a volunteer Ombudsman through Jefferson Area Board of Aging (JABA) assisting residents/families receiving Long Term Care. My role is to give residents and their families a voice and to assist them in resolving care and/or residents’ rights issues. It is more than addressing issues. I visits the residents each week to say hello, listen to a story about their life, their family and what they did before they retired. I enjoy listening to their experiences; they have so much to share.
What inspires you to volunteer?
Being a Registered Nurse I have always been interested in promoting the physical, emotional and well being of my community. I have volunteered most of my life for many community agencies. I found things that I was passionate about, cancer care and the family, feeding the hungry especially the children and literacy programs for underserved children. It has provided “food for my soul” and inspires me to do more.
If your volunteer work could make one long-lasting change, what would you want it be?
The one long lasting change that I would like to see would be that every person would be valued and respected regardless of age.

What brought you to Charlottesville/Albemarle County?
We moved from Poughkeepsie, New York to Charlottesville last year to be near to our daughters. Charlottesville offers a variety of activities and opportunities, a perfect place to retire and enjoy all it has to offer.
