Supervisors allocate extra funds at budget hearing

The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing with little attendance Tuesday on the proposed tax rate increase for the upcoming fiscal year. Supervisors also discussed matters from their previous budget work session.
Only three residents showed up to speak about the tax rate, which will be adopted at a supervisors meeting Wednesday. The decision to increase the tax rate came from County Executive Tom Foley’s recommended budget proposal, calling for a 2.5-cent increase on the tax rate to include small staff salary increases, keep up with existing services and pay for various obligations and mandates.
If approved as-is, county residents are expected to see their property taxes increase from 81.9 to 84.4 cents per $100 assessed value.
