Downtown garage dispute heats up

After saying last year, during a rate-setting dispute with city officials, that it might have to shutter a major public garage, the Charlottesville Parking Center said the city’s decision to potentially end its management contract for another downtown garage could harm local businesses and cost taxpayers greatly.
In a Jan. 30 letter, CPC manager and former city Mayor Dave Norris alleged that the city has reworked the terms of its existing management contract for a new request for proposal effectively to “preclude CPC from bidding on the new management contract” for the Market Street Garage.
