A study sanctuary, extra fitness rooms, 21st-century learning opportunities and a little more natural lighting are just a few highlights in a design for a school of the future orchestrated by a group of Albemarle County middle school students.
Those students at Walton Middle School won first place at the state level in the SchoolsNEXT Design Competition and will take their concept to the regional competition in South Carolina on Monday.
Their vision of a school for the future focuses on wellness as the central theme, with a biophilic design, which is one with connections to nature.
