Rescue squad renovation aimed at efficiency, comfort

After 35 years in the same sturdy little brick building, Albemarle County Rescue Station 8 is getting some fresh digs.
Construction began earlier this month at the station on Berkmar Drive to update the building’s interior, make some more space in the front of the building and repave the bumpy, cracked parking lot. The project will cost the county $945,000 and is expected to be completed by October.
Before construction began, the project hit a hiccup when it came in slightly over budget thanks to a high bidding climate, according to project manager Steve Hoffmann.
