CBJ: The Charlottesville area's rising rents area a burden to many

If it feels like it costs more to live here than it did last year, it’s because it does.
The median cost of rent rose as much as 4 percent for apartment dwellers in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, making the area one of the most expensive locations in Virginia to rent, according to figures compiled by federal agencies and national trade organizations.
May’s median rents in Charlottesville rose 3.4 percent over May 2016, according to Apartment List, a California-based company that lists available rental units across the country.
