Hall qualifies for City Council ballot just before deadline

John Edward Hall became the 11th person to declare his candidacy for Charlottesville City Council when he submitted his paperwork a day before the June 13 filing deadline.

An independent, Hall’s name will appear on the November ballot alongside those of four other independent candidates and the two Democratic nominees seeking two council seats.

According to city election officials, three others who previously announced their candidacies — Nancy Carpenter, Clifford Hall and Stanford Dale Woodson — did not qualify.

Along with John Edward Hall, Cassandra “Cassie” Clawson, Kenneth Wayne Jackson, Paul Edward Long and Nikuyah R. Walker qualified to run as independents.
