Opinion/Editorial: PR a start, but far more is needed

As the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love concludes as a summer of hate, Charlottesville is gambling that it can reframe itself as a city of love instead of a focus of hate.
And to do that, it’s brought in a high-powered publicity presence.
“Damage control,” it’s called.
“Cville Stands For Love” is the message the city wants to portray.
And so even as Charlottesville struggles to understand what mistakes allowed the hatred to coalesce here on Aug. 12 and how such a destructive level of damage could have happened, it is simultaneously seeking to repair the city’s tarnished image — with a goal, among others, of restoring the economic blessings of tourism.
