With hotel in mind, city to lease spaces in Water Street Parking Garage

The developer of the Dewberry Charlottesville hotel may soon be able to secure spaces in the Water Street Parking Garage that he says are needed so that the project, formerly known as the Landmark Hotel, will be a success.

A co-owner of the downtown garage across the street from the hotel, however, suggested Wednesday that he could prevent developer John Dewberry from getting what he wants.

The City Council on Tuesday authorized city staff to solicit bids for 75 city-owned parking spaces in the garage co-owned by the city and the Charlottesville Parking Center, a private entity that’s in litigation with the city over a protracted rate-setting and ownership dispute.
