Opinion/Editorial: A few of many reasons for gratitude

Giving thanks can be a beneficial exercise in the public arena as well as in private life. And there are a number of things that deserve citizens’ gratitude or appreciation this year. Here are a few examples:
 
» Expansion of the Charlottesville Amtrak station. The city’s Board of Architectural Review has just OK’d plans for the expansion, one of the first approvals necessary for a project that has been a long-held dream of Amtrak riders.
 
The addition to the train station is necessary for further expansion of passenger service. Charlottesville is such a popular Amtrak stop that it has helped establish our Northeast Regional train service, from Lynchburg to Washington and beyond, as one of the most successful routes in the country. A second route also serves Charlottesville, connecting with Chicago. This route also might be able to increase service, from three days a week to seven.
