Efforts toward fostering strong relationships and creating innovative ways to close achievement gaps have earned Bernard Hairston recognition and praise during his time in Albemarle County schools.
Hairston, the executive director of community engagement, first joined the county school division when he came to Western Albemarle High School as an assistant principal — just before assuming the role as principal at Burley Middle School in 1997.
He took on his current role in the office of community engagement in 2005.
