The Daily Progress Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10 p.m.

Central Virginia Electric Cooperative is planning to bring its 36,000 customers broadband internet access over the next five years.

CVEC serves about 3,600 homes and businesses in rural Albemarle County, and provides electricity to portions of 13 other counties.

CVEC will install the fiber optic cable along and adjacent to existing overhead and underground electric distribution lines and also own it. CVEC also will use the fiber network to improve efficiency and operations of its electric system. The internet services will be sold to customers through CVEC’s wholly owned subsidiary.
