Albemarle officials discuss effects of county’s growth

At the joint meeting of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, School Board and Planning Commission, staff from several county departments explained how the county’s increasing population is influencing how the departments serve the community.

Albemarle has been steadily growing at a rate of about 1,400 people per year, said Roderick Burton, senior systems analyst in the county’s community development department.

According to the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, the county’s population estimate as of July 1 is 107,697, an 8.8 percent increase since 2010.
