Area school divisions wrestle with safety issue

In light of the recent school shooting in Florida, Albemarle County and Charlottesville school divisions are considering what additional security measures can be completed to protect students.

Since 17 people were killed Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, local divisions have been answering questions from parents about the policies and procedures in place.

In addition to lockdown drills, which are required by the state, both school divisions have a number of physical safety elements in place.
