As a light rain pelted the pavement around him, Shane Thomas hauled the last pieces of equipment out of the nearly vacant store in the Meadowbrook Shopping Center he has called home for the past 18 years.
Each corner was like an archaeological dig, excavating memories of the surprising number of years ALC Copies has spent as a low-budget shop on a high-profile corner. When he moved one file cabinet, he unearthed an old copy of a local newspaper — not this one — with the headline “ALC Copies … Gone.”
“It’s a pretty old building, and we knew when we moved in here 18 years ago that ‘something’ was going to happen,” said Thomas, who co-owns the business with his wife and brother-in-law. “I have a lot of good memories here, but it’s time.”
