UVa students rethink coffee to level the playing field

Café Kuma is the epitome of free trade and self-determination, a university research project and a strike for social justice against an oligarchy of capitalist corporate coffee jobbers.

That’s a lot of work for a little cup of coffee.

The brisk brew with a nutty finish and hints of chocolate is grown, husked, roasted, vacuum-sealed and packaged in Kuma-Dunyo, Togo, and shipped to Charlottesville, where three University of Virginia students take it to the City Market and wherever coffee-craving crowds converge.
