Albemarle Tech heading to Planning Commission

An Albemarle County Public Schools learning facility that focuses on modern learning experience is expected to take one of its last steps toward reality on Tuesday.

The center, which was announced in April and dubbed the Albemarle Tech Center for Creativity and Invention, will accept between 20 and 40 high school seniors in its first year and expand to up to 150 slots for seniors and juniors in later years. It is expected to open in August for the 2018-2019 school year.

The project is pending approval from the Planning Commission for compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, but the agenda for the 6 p.m. meeting in the County Office Building-McIntire cites few drawbacks to the center.
