Albemarle supervisors to consider changing permitting in rural area

A proposed zoning ordinance change would alter what uses are by-right for commercial and industrial zoned properties in Albemarle County’s rural area.

Currently, owners of industrial and commercial zoned properties that are not served by public water need a special-use permit for some uses on their sites, including for any by-right uses that involve water consumption exceeding 400 gallons per site acre per day.

The county Board of Supervisors at its Feb. 7 meeting passed a resolution of intent to amend the zoning ordinance and update the list of uses by-right or by special-use permit, and to eliminate the reviewing of applications that are not served by public water by water consumption.
