Supervisors review recommended changes to short-term rental rules

Changes to how short-term residential rentals, such as Airbnb, can operate in Albemarle County could be coming this summer.

Recommended changes include allowing whole-house rentals, where homeowners are not present, only in the rural part of the county with restrictions on the number of days per month and days per year. Currently, such rentals are not allowed in the county and, under the recommendation, would continue to be prohibited in the development area.

On Wednesday, the Board of Supervisors heard the Planning Commission’s recommendations.
