Albemarle School Board withdraws bond referendum requests, slashes request to $5.4 million

The Albemarle County School Board has drastically decreased its Capital Improvement Plan request instead of seeking partial funding through a bond referendum vote in November

Lowering its request for fiscal year 2019, which begins July 1, from $53.1 million to $5.4 million, the School Board said it wants to instead concentrate on design work and land acquisition for three high school projects.

The request is for outright funding from the county. Concerns that a bond referendum may not get enough support in an off-year election were chief among the board’s reasons for delaying the request until 2019.
