Albemarle County Announces Hiring of Assessor
After a rigorous recruitment and applicant screening process by the County, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has appointed Peter Lynch as County Assessor effective April 6, 2016. Prior to this promotion, Mr. Lynch has served as Albemarle’s Assistant County Assessor since 2015 where he directly managed the reorganization of the Land Use Application process and oversaw improvements to the organization and accounting of building permits. During his time with the County, Peter also worked very closely with an International Association of Assessment Officers (IAAO) consultant and staff to develop a field guide for appraisers, and has been an integral part of the team working on the County’s new Computer Aided Mass Appraisal (CAMA) System. He approaches his work always with an eye towards continuing to ensure uniformity and equity in the County’s real estate assessment process.
“Peter’s professional competencies, leadership qualities, ethical beliefs, and his commitment to excellence make him an ideal candidate for this role,” said Director of Finance, Betty Burrell. “We view his appointment as a continuing sign of our commitment to being stewards of the County’s finances as well as our strong focus on promoting excellence, quality, and efficiency of operations.”
Peter’s most recent role, prior to joining the County of Albemarle in 2015, was as the Commercial Real Estate Appraiser Supervisor for the City of Virginia Beach, where he worked since 2001. He has extensive expertise in the area of mass appraisals and is a candidate for Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS), a distinguished certification earned through IAAO. Peter earned his Bachelors of Science in Real Estate from Old Dominion University, and an Associates in Business Administration from Tidewater Community College. He completed the UVA Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) training program in September 2015.
