Charlottesville is seeking to apply for more grant money to build a bicycle and pedestrian bridge in McIntire Park, providing a connection between the park’s two halves where none exists.

The bridge would serve the dual purpose of linking the park’s eastern and western sides and being a piece of a larger trail network that hopes to connect downtown Charlottesville to U.S. 29.

“Ever since the park came into existence in the ’20s, the railroad has gone down the middle,” city park and trail planner Chris Gensic said.
