The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday unanimously approved contracts to provide financial support for the redevelopment of the historic Woolen Mills factory into the corporate campus for WillowTree Inc.

The public-private partnership, first announced by Gov. Ralph Northam on Aug. 27, will provide recreational, transit and economic development benefits and also ensure that WillowTree, one of Charlottesville’s largest employers, keeps its headquarters in the region.

The deal had been a quasi-covert operation — with code names and all — since developer Brian Roy first began eyeing the property for redevelopment four years ago.
