The Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau’s interim executive director, Adam Healey, told the entity’s new executive board at its first meeting recently that the area’s tourism industry is lagging behind national growth figures.

“Unfortunately, we’re doing pretty poorly in Charlottesville and Albemarle County,” Healey, who was appointed at the end of June, said.

To fix the problem, Healey and advertising firm Clean, which was hired by the CACVB last year to market the area, suggested increasing spending on marketing and retooling ad campaigns about the area.
