A fire at Friendship Court late last month displaced eight families that live at the publicly subsidized apartment complex in downtown Charlottesville.
While half of those families were told on Friday that they could come back home, it could take about six months before the remaining families are able to return, a community organizer for the Piedmont Housing Alliance said.
“Two or three families will be displaced for approximately six months, while the units are being totally restored,” said Claudette Grant. “Piedmont Housing Alliance, the National Housing Trust and Edgewood Management are all franticly looking to find temporary housing for these families.”
