Crowdfunding might be a novel way to pay for a public park — but, then, we’ve been encouraging Albemarle County to come up with alternatives for funding parks.

The county currently is land rich, having taken custody of more than 2,000 acres of unimproved park land. But it lacks sufficient funding to develop all that land.

Crowdfunding — asking the public to directly donate to park development — is one option generating interest as Albemarle looks at creating a small park and boat launch on the South Fork Rivanna River.
