A new transfer station is set to open soon at the Ivy Materials Utilization Center, though rainy weather has delayed the finishing touches of the project.

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 11,600 square-foot transfer station at 10 a.m. Thursday, though the station will not be operational for at least another week.

Despite the paving delay, Phillip McKalips, director of solid waste at the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority, said the project is ahead of schedule because moving through county and state permitting processes took less time than expected.
