The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority experienced almost half a million dollars in damages to its facilities in the late May storms.

On May 30 and 31, storms dumped 5 to 10 inches of rain across the region, causing flash floods that inundated roadways, burst water mains and washed out culverts.

“The intensity of this event really set it off as a different type of storm from all the other types of storms we typically get,” Jennifer Whitaker, RWSA’s director of engineering and maintenance, said to the authority’s board on Tuesday.
