“Sage and Fire,” an exhibition of work by two local Indigenous artists, opens this week at Studio IX.

April Branham will show acrylic paintings on stretched canvas and Carrie Pruitt will show photography and hand-woven beadwork. Both artists are members of the Monacan Indian Nation. And while their works are distinct, both use art to explore identity and heritage.

The show opens Friday with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and runs through Oct. 30. Visit for an artist talk and happy hour Thursday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.
