Albemarle County to rejoin Chamber of Commerce
At the December 6, 2006 meeting of the
Albemarle County Board of Supervisors
, Rivanna District Supervisor Ken Boyd received support for the County to rejoin the
Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce
. The motion was approved by a 4-2 vote (Rooker & Thomas against).
Supervisors indicated the County had previously held membership in the Chamber in the 1970s. Mr. Boyd said his motion was related in part to the fact that the County Executive, Bob Tucker, had recently lost his ex-officio seat on the Chamber Board.
The expenditure for Chamber dues will be on the agenda for a future public hearing as the line item will be in the next regular batch of appropriations periodically approved by the Supervisors. Consideration of Chamber membership was not on the meeting’s agenda and the board’s action was taken under other business. Supervisors
Dennis Rooker (Jack Jouett)
and
Sally Thomas (Samuel Miller)
said that any action of this type should be placed on the agenda as a discreet item for an advertised public hearing. Mr. Boyd said he thought having the appropriation hearing was sufficient and that since the Board had already decided in 2006 to join the Thomas Jefferson partnership for Economic Development (TJPED), the public debate had largely already taken place.
