Charlottesville Students Get Real Life STEM Experience at Intelligence Firm S&P Global

Youth from low-income households explore career options as part of programming at C4K, a local nonprofit

Today from 10am-12pm, C4K youth members took a field trip to the Charlottesville office of S&P Global. For C4K, which uses educational programming and mentoring to equip students with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills, the excursion is an opportunity for students to learn about different career options that are available to them.

“One of the most important things C4K does is help our members imagine bigger and better possibilities for themselves. When they visit S&P Global, our members will interact with professionals doing jobs that our members may not have realized even existed. Our members will connect the dots between the STEAM skills they are learning now and the jobs they can have in the future,” said Chris Florez, C4K’s Program Director.

The field trip included presentations on data science, using robots to automate news stories, and social media marketing tools. There was also a Q&A panel with senior S&P leaders.

S&P Global is a strong supporter of C4K. The firm recently awarded C4K with funds to help launch C4K’s Robotics & Engineering Lab.
