This fall, central Virginia’s nonprofit newsroom Charlottesville Tomorrow is joining the collective of journalism organizations that receive support from the Ford Foundation with the receipt of a two year, $200,000 grant under the Foundation’s Creativity and Free Expression program.

“We are building a strong local newsroom that can serve this region with equity and stability,” said Charlottesville Tomorrow Development Director, Michaux Hood. “Support from the Ford Foundation, along with our local community of supporters, gives us capacity to invite more perspectives and community ownership of our local news.”

The Ford Foundation’s support will help Charlottesville Tomorrow deepen its coverage of health, government, education and housing and development, build staff capacity and audience support to deepen the community ties that make the organization sustainable.

About the Ford Foundation

At the Ford Foundation, believing in the inherent dignity of all people is central to its mission. But around the world, too many people are excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives.

Across eight decades, the Ford Foundation’s mission has been to reduce poverty and injustice, strengthen democratic values, promote international cooperation and advance human achievement. The Ford Foundation’s strategy involves investing in individuals through leadership development, scholarships, exchanges, and professional training programs, building institutions through support of path breaking organizations working on a broad range of social change issues, and supporting new ideas — among them public media, microfinance, women’s rights, public interest law, digital human rights, and many more.

The Ford Foundation is not connected to the Ford Motor Company. The Ford Foundation and Ford Motor Company are two separate and legally unrelated entities whose operations are completely independent and have been for more than 50 years. There is not any financial authority, decision making nor funding relationship between the two organizations.
