In the past 18 months we have seen the social sector respond to pressing needs by pivoting how programs and services are delivered and reimagining the ways we incorporate community engagement. During this time, we have also seen an increase of passionate individuals wanting to make an impact and respond to community challenges by starting a nonprofit.

It’s hard to give an exact number of nonprofits in the Charlottesville area, but this IRS master file of exempt organizations by state can give us an approximate number of 400 to 500 nonprofits in Charlottesville and Albemarle –and that’s not including the surrounding counties!
These are local organizations on the ground doing important community-building work, usually with tight budgets and limited staff so they rely on volunteers for additional capacity. They need passionate individuals like you who are dedicated and connected to communities they serve.
