Jack Kelsey, Albemarle County

Jack Kelsey, Transportation Engineer, Albemarle County
Your job title is Transportation Engineer. What, in your own words, would you say you do?
I manage the design and construction of Albemarle County’s transportation related projects; I serve as the County liaison on VDOT projects; I’m a source for County transportation related information; and I assist/coordinate the resolution of transportation issues.
What is the best part of your job? The most difficult part?
The best part is seeing your improvement projects being constructed and knowing they will serve our community for years to come. The worst part is probably the financial/accounting aspect and assuring that there are adequate funds for current and future projects.
How does your job most directly impact the average person?
I help to provide the transportation infrastructure that our community uses every day whether it’s driving, biking or walking.
What is the most interesting project or work experience that you’ve had while with the County?
It’s a tough choice between working with VDOT to complete the County portion of the John Warner Parkway (. Meadow Creek Parkway) and it’s pedestrian/bike trail, or the Downtown Crozet Streetscape project presently being constructed.
What is a little-known fact about you?
I’m a Professional Ski Instructor (certified by PSIA) and work at Wintergreen Resort. I also enjoy providing singing/guitar selections (“gift of music”) at my church, and I’ve performed in several Community Theater musicals.
