Jefferson Madison Regional Library Director Receives Award

The award is given by the Virginia Library Association as deemed appropriate, not annually, to an individual, a library, or an organization distinguished for advocacy for libraries. In making the award, the association cited Halliday’s successful leadership of the four-county and one city library system through difficult financial times following the 2008 recession. Specifically, the award cited library service improvements in Albemarle County brought about by the new Crozet Library and the new Northside Library. 

Halliday was nominated for the award by local citizens including representatives from the Crozet Library Fund Raising Committee, the Library Board of Trustees, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, and Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. 

Halliday will be formally presented with the George Mason Award plaque at the Virginia Library Association’s Annual Conference in October.

Jefferson-Madison Regional Library serves the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. Halliday has been director of the regional library since 1997.
