It’s a not just a gas station sans fuel, it’s a laboratory for the future.
Construction has started on a Sheetz Café in the former Eddy’s Tavern at 1517 University Ave. and the family-owned, Pennsylvania-based company hopes to learn lessons that will help the company prosper in years to come.
“It’s a bit new for us and it will be a different experience for those who know us, not having gas pumps,” said Ryan Sheetz, the company’s assistant vice president of brand development. “Because of that, we have to think differently. We have to think more like a restaurant. It will force us to do different things, and some of those things, we hope, can be applied throughout our stores.”
