Expansions, updates at two rural schools bumped up with Yancey closure

Scottsville and Red Hill elementary schools, two rural schools located in the southern portion of the county, have been waiting to be approved for expansion and parity work for years.

Scottsville has been in need of modernized classrooms, an expansion of its current footprint and a new gym, while the second phase of Red Hill’s modernization project has yet to start. 

But with the addition of students from the now-closed Yancey Elementary School, the projects have been given increased priority by school division staff and officials.
