CPD, VSP tally costs for KKK rally: City spent $35k, VSP minimized trooper overtime

The city’s police response to the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan rally on July 8 cost Charlottesville taxpayers a total of $35,302.42, according to a city spokeswoman.

More than two thirds of the expenses, or $23,352.03, came from city personnel costs, which include overtime for city officers, fire department officials and emergency communications staff, according to an expense summary from the city. City police overtime made up $16,299.06 of that.
