Deschutes deal serves as case study at joint county meeting

Albemarle County officials were presented with an autopsy of sorts Tuesday afternoon about last year’s loss of Deschutes Brewery’s East Coast expansion to Roanoke.
In a joint meeting, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and Economic Development Authority heard about site readiness from a site selector’s perspective and learned how real factors with Deschutes’ selection process matched up with site readiness criteria.
“This is not about re-legislating this issue, or re-debating the issue or assigning blame in the issue,” Assistant County Executive Lee Catlin said. “I think we’re all very focused on this as a learning lesson and so we don’t keep looking in the rearview mirror, but we look forward down the highway.”
