CHAMBER PRESIDENT TIMOTHY HULBERT TO STEP DOWN IN 2018; SEARCH TO BEGIN BY JANUARY,CONCLUDE BY OCTOBER 2018
The Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce today announced that Chamber President Timothy Hulbert and the Chamber Board of Directors have agreed upon the timing of a transition to new leadership by next October 1".
"Tim Hulbert has served as our Chamber's 'chief steward' for nearly 17 years and he and our Chamber Board have agreed it's time for the Chamber to begin what will be an extensive nation-wide effort to secure a new chief executive to take hold of the mantel and move forward into the future," stated Joseph Raichel, Wells Fargo Senior Vice President I Regional Executive, who serves as 2017 Chairman of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
"Tim has given his all as a powerful executive and advocate for our Chamber mission: 'dedicated to representing private enterprise, promoting business and enhancing the quality of life in our Greater Charlottesville communities.' We wish Tim, Bonnie and their family the best."
The Chamber transition process grows out of a recent Chamber Board retreat discussion focused on the future of the Chamber and Greater Charlottesville communities.
The Chamber has already begun laying the foundation for a nation-wide search for a new President I CEO to take office next October . A Chamber Search Committee will be announced shortly and the extensive process,from announcing the opening (targeted for January) to installing the new President,will draw on standards developed by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives; the Institute of Organizational Management; and the United States Chamber of Commerce and other sources. Mr. Hulbert will assist the Search Committee without involvement in the selection process. The transition schedule is open to shifting as circumstances arise.

Mr. Hulbert began his tenure as Charlottesville Regional Chamber President/CEO & Secretary in March 2001.
Prior to his tenure in Charlottesville, Mr. Hulbert served 12 years as President & CEO of the Rensselaer County (New York) Regional Chamber of Commerce and its Rensselaer Gateway Development Corporation affiliate.
Throughout his time in Virginia, Mr. Hulbert has been active in the Virginia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, a network of nearly 100 Virginia regional and local Chambers of Commerce. In 2006, Mr. Hulbert was honored to receive the "Virginia Chamber Executive of the Year Award" by the VACCE. He was elected by his colleagues and served as the VAACE Board of Directors President in 2013-14. In that capacity, Mr. Hulbert served on the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and has maintained close ties with the Virginia Chamber since 2001.
Before his career as a Chamber executive,Mr. Hulbert served on the executive staff of two New York State Transportation Commissioners in the administration of Governor Mario M. Cuomo and on the executive staff of the New York State Energy Commissioner in the administration of Governor Hugh L. Carey and as a Special Assistant to United States Congressman Ned Pattison.
In business he worked as a professional communications & marketing consultant and prior as a financial services consultant. Mr. Hulbert is a New York native who grew up in Coxsackie in Greene County New York. He is a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany and Manhattan College in the Bronx.
Mr. Hulbert said that he "plans to pursue new and exciting professional opportunities in communications, strategy, advocacy and community & governmental relations, here in Charlottesville, across Virginia and other places, to be determined. Stay tuned."
