Sports medicine becoming big business locally

An aging population has led to dramatic growth in sports medicine and orthopedics over the past decade. As people become more aware of the benefits of exercise and remaining active, the need for facilities that address related injuries also has grown.

Sports medicine is increasingly being sought for younger patients, too. According to a report from Johns Hopkins University, 30 million teens participate in sports, resulting in 3.5 million injuries annually — one third of childhood accidents. A Grand View Research report predicts sports medicine’s overall 2016 global value of $6.4 billion to grow to $8.24 billion by 2022.
