Timeline for 9-mile-long water pipeline weighed

After unanticipated low water levels at the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir in October, a long-planned pipeline is taking another step forward.

The proposed 9-mile-long pipeline will allow water from the Ragged Mountain Reservoir to be pumped to the South Fork reservoir — which has the largest water treatment facility in the system — and back again.

The ability to pump water between the two reservoirs will give the Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority greater flexibility in dealing with droughts by allowing it to transport water between reservoirs whenever they run low.
