Differing yet fundamental philosophies over taxation are at the heart of a dispute involving distilleries.
One viewpoint says: Government is justified in taking as much of your money as it can get away with.
The other says: It’s your money, after all, and government will take only a fair and reasonable share.
Is a 54 percent tax reasonable — more than half of your profit? Is it fair, when similar goods are taxed at much lower rates?
