Average property assessments up 5.5 percent in Charlottesville

Most Charlottesville homeowners will see their real estate tax bills increase this year, after city reassessments increased by an average of 5.5 percent over last year.

Residential property assessments increased by 6.7 percent, while commercial property assessment grew by 2.6 percent. Last year, commercial assessments increased by nearly 30 percent and assessments on residential parcels increased by 4.2 percent.

According to the City Assessor’s Office, 86 percent of homeowners will see an increase.
